Simplicity

Glancing Girl here …

Okay…I’m willing to bet that most of us wish we didn’t have to spend quite so long getting ready in the morning.

It takes me 20 minutes to do my makeup if I’m wearing a full face {yes, I’m a bit of a perfectionist}.

But it really is time consuming to blend in concealer and foundation just so, to shade and line eyes … etc, etc, etc.

And the thing is, I think most of us look just as good with a little makeup as with a lot. In fact, some of us even look better.

I’m proposing that it really is a good thing to let your skin breathe a bit – and there’s no better time to experiment with a pared-down cosmetic case than in the summer when everyone knows you’re more interested in working in your garden, hiking, and having mojitos on your back porch than spending time in front of the mirror.

I’ve been working with just 3 products for the past several days. And I’m convinced that you can, too.

These are the products I’ve been using {and I swear, this cuts down my routine to less than 5 minutes}. Of course, I’m not including my face wash/toner/eye cream/moisturizer in this list. A clean canvas is essential to a lovely face.

Here we go:

Diorshow mascara. My eyes really do need a little something, but shadow isn’t really necessary and liner doesn’t make them pop as much as mascara does. I curl my lashes by heating my metal curler with the blow dryer for a few seconds and then immediately apply a couple coats to the top and bottom lashes. If you’re relying on one product to showcase a feature, it really needs to be a good product. No disrespect to drugstore varieties, but this mascara really gets the job done.

I multi-task with this product by Tarte which is neither too sticky or glossy. I rub the tube right across my cheekbones and on my lips. Sometimes I use a makeup sponge to blend into the apples of my cheeks. It just depends on how much color you want. Tarte has lots of different shades of this product so you can choose the color that’s right for you. I would suggest not overlooking color on your cheeks if you’re being minimalist about your makeup.

I multi-task with this product as well – clear Rosebud Salve. I rub a little on my lips, right on top of the Tarte stain, and smooth a bit on my eyebrows to keep them under control.

And that’s it!

It really is quite freeing to pare down your routine to the essentials, or maybe you’re in a different boat all together and don’t wear makeup at all! If that’s the case, I recommend you start with these products {which may be all you need} and see if you don’t look a little younger, a little more rejuvenated, a little more sassy.

xoxo
