Glancing Girl here …

Another tutorial in layering … enjoy!

We started with a very basic white button-up and casual denim.

And added shape by creating a high and tiny waistline.

Our first layer was created by using a cropped vest, which we decided to leave unbuttoned so that the caramel belt remains visible. Notice that we’re not concerned about the browns matching … it’s enough that the shades are in the same color family to create continuity.
And we could stop there.
On a warm day, this ensemble {add a piece of statement jewelry and a handbag} would be a complete look for the office or drinks with the girls.
However, keeping in mind that our weather has been fluctuating as of late, we opted to progress the layers…

Adding a thigh-length cardigan for warmth makes it essential to belt both layers so the curve of the waist doesn’t disappear. See the bit of sparkle added by the necklace?

The final layer is this blue tweed jacket which really completes the look but is also not necessary; meaning the ensemble looks just as chic if the jacket is removed for comfort.

And the final step is adding a few accessories.
The choice of bag compliments both the caramel belt and the chocolate vest {if you’re looking for an easy way to re-energize your wardrobe for spring, think about switching your handbag from black to a light brown, gray, or a bright pop of color}.
And since florals are all the rage, we chose a simple poppy boutonniere in a bold shade that’s opposite blue on the color chart.
Opposites always work splendidly together when creating contrast.
