Glancing Girl here …
I’m guessing that almost every one of us has had a moment where flipping through a magazine or clicking through fashion blogs we’ve done a double-take at an ensemble that strikes us in some way.
For the sake of argument, let’s say we’re struck by something a little bit outrageous. Not something we could easily imagine ourselves walking down the sidewalk in.
Yet, we’re not rejecting the image. We’re not laughing it off … we’re captured by it.
That’s sort-of the way I feel about this:
I’m not going to wear that ensemble. But there’s something about it that’s mesmerizing.
This is where you must put on your critical thinking beret. Or cloche. Or whatever.
I need to determine what it is about this ensemble that I’m interested in mimicking – is it a color combination? The silhouette? A smaller detail – like the accessories?
As it turns out, there are 3 things about this look I not only like but could imagine myself wearing.
1. The slouchy knit cap
2. The slouchy knit cap paired with a glamorous gold earring
3. The face-framing fluff
And that’s it.
Those are the elements that have caught my attention and lodged themselves in my imagination.
So the next time you’re captured by a page in a magazine or a mannequin in a store front, don’t dismiss it as something you could never pull off.
Reflect on it.
Figure out what about it is especially appealing, and then figure out how to make that work for you. And if you don’t know how to do that – ask a stylish friend for help.
There’s lots of us {stylish friends} at Second Glance & The Annex – just waiting to make something outrageous work for you.
