In Gratitude

Glancing Girl here …
Yesterday, I opened my e-mail and found a message from The Ultimate Glancing Girl {Nancy K.} to all her friends and customers.
I wanted to share it in this space {just in case you missed it in your inbox} because it’s really a note of gratitude to you…

Dear Friends of Second Glance & The Annex,

Some of you may have heard that I recently had the extraordinary honor of accepting the 2009 Robert C. Ingalls Business Person of the Year Award at Celebrate Corvallis.

I was humbled simply to share the distinction of being nominated alongside so many phenomenal individuals from the Corvallis community. I’m proud to call many of the nominated individuals and businesses friends and customers, and I know well their commitments to volunteerism, sustainability, economic development, and integrity. They are truly “hometown heroes” and I consider it a genuine blessing to live and work among them.

I consider you, my customers and friends, the greatest blessing of all. Without your engagement and support, my vision would be little more than a dream, but over the last 25 years you have embraced the idea of sustainable fashion as my dream became a reality. You have accepted the “revolving closet” concept, and recycling your clothing has become as second nature as recycling your plastic containers! You have helped me create a dynamic environment, where women truly enjoy each others company. You have enabled me to support and nurture many young women who have been my joy to employ and learn from over the past two decades. Your support allowed me to open a second location, The Annex, which offers a new generation of women their own space to enjoy fashion and embrace sustainability.

I had high expectations for myself when I opened Second Glance in 1984, but I never imagined that many years later I would be asked to deliver the keynote address at a national conference focused on sustainable industry, or that I would be involved in programs like the Austin Family Business Program encouraging and educating young entrepreneurs, or that I would receive an award for contributions to my community.

Whatever I have achieved, it has been because of you, and I am forever in your debt.

Here’s to the next 25 years!

… and she won

Glancing Girl here …
If anyone deserves to wear a crown and eat cake today, it’s the Ultimate Glancing Girl.

As her staff, friends, and family … we’re so proud of her.
Second Glance & The Annex are special for many reasons; for their focus on sustainability, conscientious living, responsible engagement in the world of fashion, fostering relationships between women, modeling an entrepreneurial spirit and successful, innovative business practices.
But most of all, I think they’re special simply because of who Nancy is and the spirit she radiates.
She’s the sparkle, and we feel lucky to be a part of her story.
If you’re in the mood for a little shopping today, or just a little “therapy” – we’d love to share the sparkle with you.

A Patroness of Sustainability

Glancing Girl here …

On Wednesday of this week, the Ultimate Glancing Girl was honored at a community-wide celebration that recognizes citizens and businesses for their achievements.

Nancy was nominated at Celebrate Corvallis for the Robert C. Ingalls Business Person of the Year award, along with several other worthy nominees.

I know she would tell you it was an honor to be in the company of so many other businesses and individuals dedicated to making the community of Corvallis a better place to live and work.

In Corvallis, we have the privilege of working alongside many community organizations and businesses that are serious about sustainability, integrity in their work, building relationships with customers and clients that are less like business transactions and more like investments in the lives of others.

That’s what Nancy has always wanted Second Glance to be…

{a business that supports women}

{a business that is smart about caring for the environment and offering sustainable choices}

{a business that gives back to the community}

{a business filled with laughter and heart}

We hope you find all those things in your Second Glance experience.

It’s what the Ultimate Glancing Girl is all about.
