Miscellaneous Wednesday

Glancing Girl here …

I’m not sure how to title this post other than to tell you it’s a mash-up of some great beauty tips plus some smashing fall fashion advice.

First up – the beauty tips:

I’ve been using this technique on my lower lashes for awhile now and I’ve got to say, I don’t think I’ll ever go back to using a wand on those babies.

This really does create the look of mah.jor lashes and the tip to build up the majority of product on the roots is critical.

This tip is about sprinkling dry shampoo through the roots of your hair before bedtime and waking up with super voluminous locks.

Plus, during the night the powder soaks in so you’re not left with weird white roots. Read more, here.

And now on to style:

The trick to great fall dressing is always layers. So if you don’t know how to do it – now’s the time to figure it out.

Visit one of our shops and ask for a tutorial – the Glancing Girls & Guys will walk you through it.

And finally, check out Gwynnie’s perfection:

Goop and J.Crew teamed up for a super sweet photo shoot.

You can see more of it, here.

Late Summer Style

Glancing Girl here …

When I was in school, I always resented the time in September when the weather was still 80 degrees at the height of the day and chilly in the evening.

I wanted to wear my new fall fashions to school – not at home where no one but my baby sisters could appreciate them – dammit!

So I would often wear my new duds anyway and just end up being a sweaty mess by the end of the day.

As an adult, I guess I appreciate the way summer clings on, but I still start to long for denim and boots and chunky sweaters by the time we get to this point of the year.

To satisfy my fall cravings, I begin to blend my seasonal wardrobes.

A little bit of summer mixed with a little bit of fall goes a long way:

A tank on top of distressed denim will definitely keep you cool in the midday heat. And once the heat dissipates, that denim will be just as fabulous with a long-sleeved tee, blazer, and heels.

Silk blouses are a clever way of staying cool but looking completely autumnal.

imogene + willie clearly knows how to rock the late summer transition. Sandals mixed with chinos, layers atop tiny dresses, tanks with denim – it’s a mashup that simply works.

If you need to add a few transitional pieces to your wardrobe to make the late summer look work for you – come play in our closets!

We’ve got great items in each of the shops to extend the longevity of your summer wardrobe into cooler weather.

And ladies, don’t neglect to check out The Alley when you visit us downtown. Menswear button-ups look pretty great on top of skinny, cropped denim and cut-offs this time of year.

Fall Inspiration

Glancing Girl here …

I’m pretty taken by the combination of that red hair and those dark eyes.

I’ve always been weak-kneed for a bit of drama.

Summer Style

Glancing Girl here …

I am in love with how easy this summer ensemble is:

And in spite of its ease, there’s something quite chic about it, no?

School Days

Glancing Girl here …

I love academia. From preschool through grad school, I’ve loved it all.

So there will always be something magic about the advent of fall and back-to-school for me.

And, hello, the start of school means the arrival of fall fashion.

These would definitely be on my back-to-school list:
