When I was in school, I always resented the time in September when the weather was still 80 degrees at the height of the day and chilly in the evening.

I wanted to wear my new fall fashions to school – not at home where no one but my baby sisters could appreciate them – dammit!

So I would often wear my new duds anyway and just end up being a sweaty mess by the end of the day.

As an adult, I guess I appreciate the way summer clings on, but I still start to long for denim and boots and chunky sweaters by the time we get to this point of the year.

To satisfy my fall cravings, I begin to blend my seasonal wardrobes.

A little bit of summer mixed with a little bit of fall goes a long way:

A tank on top of distressed denim will definitely keep you cool in the midday heat. And once the heat dissipates, that denim will be just as fabulous with a long-sleeved tee, blazer, and heels.

Silk blouses are a clever way of staying cool but looking completely autumnal.

imogene + willie clearly knows how to rock the late summer transition. Sandals mixed with chinos, layers atop tiny dresses, tanks with denim – it’s a mashup that simply works.
